EVERYTHING // Song Story by Pippa Baker

Last year we hosted our second ‘One Hope Project Worship Day’ in East London. It was an incredible time; we led workshops on worship through movement, art, photography, vocal freedom, rhythm, spoken word and songwriting. We celebrated Mass, had a pizza party, and worshipped Jesus!

On the evening of Worship Day, we were leading our newly written track For Love and revelling in the beautiful truth of the words of the song. Jesus, God Himself, proved how much He loves humanity by becoming one. He came down for us, died for us, now lives inside of us, all for the love of us. There’s nothing more life changing than this. This love story is truly the greatest story ever told.

What’s the right response to that?! It often leaves me speechless. But in that moment at Worship Day, my response was to sing over and over and over again:

“Where would we be without you, God?”

The song rose up in my heart and it became louder and greater as the chorus of voices joined in – a true declaration of our gratitude to Jesus. The truth is, without Him, we are nothing. We cannot save ourselves. He is everything to us.

That’s how Everything came into being. This little track is absolutely the overflow of the song prior to it, For Love. As this flowed from For Love it felt only right for Tom to sing it on the album and he captures the heart of it beautifully.

Our prayer is that just as Jesus decided to give Himself completely for love of us, that we too would lay down our lives for love of Him and love of our neighbour.

'Jesus had equal status with God but didn’t think so much of himself that he had to cling to the advantages of that status no matter what. Not at all. When the time came, he set aside the privileges of deity and took on the status of a slave, became human! Having become human, he stayed human. It was an incredibly humbling process. He didn’t claim special privileges. Instead, he lived a selfless, obedient life and then died a selfless, obedient death—and the worst kind of death at that—a crucifixion.

Because of that obedience, God lifted him high and honoured him far beyond anyone or anything, ever, so that all created beings in heaven and on earth—even those long ago dead and buried—will bow in worship before this Jesus Christ, and call out in praise that he is the Master of all, to the glorious honour of God the Father.’ Philippians 2:5-11
